Young Rider Championship Round-Up
The climax of the ‘FEI EUROPEAN EVENTING CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR YOUNG RIDERS PRESENTED BY CONNOLLY’S RED MILLS took place on Sunday afternoon under bright skies at the Green Glens Arena.
Germany’s Young Rider team did not want to be outdone by their Junior team who had won Gold earlier in the day and duly won Team Gold on a score of 133.70. There was drama to the end over the James Tarrant designed show-jumping course and the lead changed hands several times during the last session.
The Netherlands won Team Silver on a score 135.90 and GBR 143.30 took the Bronze.
In the Individual competition overnight leader Hanna KNÜPPEL (GER) won the Gold medal having a fence down to finish on a score of 40.00. She used her one fence in hand up at the second fence so the nerves were tested to the very last fence. Hannah commented:
What a week, I would like to thank the Duggan family and Sponsors of the event for putting on such a great event.”
Alex KENNEDY (GBR) show-jumped clear to take the Silver on a score of 41.3. Janou BLEEKMAN (NED) jumped a great clear round and rose from 8th to take Bronze on a score of 44.
Cathal DANIELS (IRL ) jumped clear to climb 15 places up the leaderboard from the dressage phase and finish 4th and best of the Irish on a score of 44.6.
